The Case

Federal prosecutors charged Ghislaine Maxwell with six counts arising from alleged conduct with Jeffrey Epstein between 1994 and 2004. The government's case included testimony from women identified in the public transcript by first name or pseudonym, household employees, pilots, investigators, records custodians, and an expert witness. The defense disputed Maxwell's knowledge and intent and challenged witness memories, prior accounts, and corroboration.

The trial began in Manhattan on November 29, 2021. On December 29, the jury found Maxwell guilty on five counts and not guilty on one. Judge Alison J. Nathan later imposed a 20-year prison sentence. The Second Circuit affirmed the judgment, the Supreme Court declined review, and the district court denied Maxwell's later collateral challenge.
