On Day 12, FBI Special Agent Jason Richards testified for the defense about his role in the 2006-era Epstein investigation, FBI interview practices, and the preparation and review of FD-302 reports. He identified his initials on JR-1, a report marked for identification that recorded details from a 2007 interview of Carolyn. Richards also said he did not have a current memory of the interview and used the report as a reference.

On cross-examination, Richards agreed that an FD-302 is a summary of interview results, not a verbatim report or transcript. He further testified that Carolyn had not reviewed or confirmed the report's accuracy.

On redirect, Richards said he wrote down interview information accurately as best he could and agreed that he could be called to testify under oath about what interviewees told him. He was then excused.

Later, the defense asked the court to add Richards's testimony to a response to a jury request concerning FBI document 3505-005. The court denied that request because the jury had not asked for his testimony. A later jury note separately included Richards among five requested transcripts.
